Buh-Bye

I've just received word that my domain will be disabled due to bandwidth overages. No warning...just shut down! Here's the email I received from OLM.net:

"Our systems have detected that your domain mcdeb.com has exceeded the allotted traffic/bandwidth limits for your account type.

The domain mcdeb.com is over pace for web/ftp traffic in the month of Sep. The total traffic for the month so far is: 17.692 GB. The traffic projection for this month is: 17.692 GB. Your account type has a limit of: 8 GB. Web access to the domain has been automatically disabled to protect other customers on the server."

Nice huh? No warning at all. And it's only the beginning of the month! If this site should go down for a few days, that's why. I'm scrambling to back everything up and find a new host.

UPDATE: I think we are safe for now. Just paid a whopping $5 per GB in overages. Yikes!

UPDATE AGAIN: Just heard back from OLM. They admit that there has been an error in calculating the bandwidth usage and will be reimbursing my overage charges. Yipeee! However, I do find it a little suspicious that I received a "pay more or get lost" notice in the first place. Strange.

Yikes! The price of being popular, eh? Sorry to hear OLM.net are being so 'heavy' on you, particularly without warning! Good luck on finding a new host if necessary, and that you don't end up paying too much out of your own pocket!

Thanks, Kendal. Now they say they are looking into it. I brought attention to the fact that it is virtually impossible for this site to have done 17GB in traffic in just 3 days! We get some traffic here, but I'm certainly not microsoft.com! We shall see...

I agree that that does seem a little ridiculous. If you need donations all you need to do is ask!

Ahh yes, good old OLM. I was with them a few years back and never felt comfortable. Something was always going wrong and it always managed to be something I should be paying extra for.

Might be time to look for a new host, but moving can be just as traumatic as staying with a bad host. *sigh* The plight of a small web publisher.

Deb, I'm trying to help out. I just purchased the Lighthouse series. They are great! We recently went on a lighthouse tour when visiting Nova Scotia. These themes will bring back great memories of the trip.
