Sorry for the down time

Many of you have written regarding the site's down time lately. Believe me, I am very ticked about this as well. On March 1, I moved to a new server with the same hosting company. Although the new server is a little more expensive, it was supposed to be faster and much more reliable. Well, it is certainly faster...WHEN IT"S WORKING!! Seems to go down just about every night about 12:30am. I have to re-start appache and it comes right back. But, if I am not available to restart it, we are down. mad

I am working on resolving this issue ASAP. If we unable to fix it TODAY, then I will switch hosting companies. I've been with the same host for quite a while, and I dread the move, but we just cannot accept the down-time. If anyone knows of a web host willing to offer a good deal on lots of bandwidth, please let me know. smile

Thanks for your patience everyone.

Deb,

What are your bandwidth needs? If you want to answer me privately, please feel free. Also, what are you paying per month, if I may be so bold. I may have an answer for you. I have been involved with web hosting for several years, so I may have some answers for you!

Thanks Susan. I do have a few leads so far. I need at least 25GB per month in data transfer and unlimited file storage (or at least 1GB). I also require MySQL, Perl...the works. Shell access is nice to have, but not totally necessary.

Thanks to all who have ideas.

As an update. My current host has installed a CRON-job to automatically restart apache every night. Let's see if that does the trick. Even if it does, I may still switch as I think I am paying waaay too much. I've noticed some deals as low as $30 per month for what I need. We shall see.

Deb,

I am glad you got things worked out. I did send you an e-mail, but it bounced. I must have sent it when you were moving.

Good luck with the new server!
