Brief McMom Update

I'd like to take a minute here to thank everyone for your kind messages of support during my Mother's relapse and illness. Mom is now off the ventilator and is being moved out of the ICU today. smile She's once again beaten all the odds. We still do not have a definitive diagnosis as to what keeps causing this respiratory failure. When she gets a little stronger the doctors will do a lung biopsy to see if we can finally pin it down. Hopefully it's something manageable and we can prevent it from happening again. After months of physical therapy from the first go around, we are in for more now. But, Mom has a great attitude and will once again overcome the challenges.

My thanks to everyone for your prayers and support as well as your patience during the lack of site updates. You guys are the best. grin

Thanks for the good news. She didn't seem to be on the respirator for as long this time. I hope she'll get to go home soon smile

It's hard to be patient about the updates, because we never know what you'll be posting next, but we know it will be good!!

Yes. This time she was on the ventilator for 2 weeks. Last time it was almost 6. But believe it or not, she was actually sicker this time around. The doctors are amazed that she survived this yet again. There is no logical medical explanation for the fact that she is still with us. I don't think I ever gave much thought to miracles until now.

We still have a lot of hurdles to jump. She can only speak in a faint whisper, and it's very hard to understand. The heavy sedation lingers in her system much longer than it should and it's possible that the emergency intubation damaged her vocal chords. We also need to get her strong enough to stand and walk. Mom is only 61 so she should be able to get moving again soon. I'm jumping the gun a bit; maybe we should start with solid food and talking first. One day at a time. I'm just happy to have her back. smile

Debbie
We will continue to keep her in our thoughts and prayers. She is the same age as my husband (I married an old mangrin ) and I have gone through heart surgery and major complications with him. She is young to have these problems and her age will help her make a speedy recovery. My husband always felt good when the doctor talked about how young he wassmile Take care of yourself as well-enjoy your daughter's high school graduation-take a lot of pictures and post all over your mom's room!
