Sail Away:

Great themes! How do you like your Dell Axim X50 V? I've been looking at it and the iPAQ 4705. The iPAQ is supposed to have a fantastic screen. I really like it. They have it in stock at the local CompUSA, so I've been able to look at it and hold it. The battery was dead so I couldn't play with it
The X50 V has windows Medial Player 10 built in, which would probably be a plus. The iPAQ has version 9. Decisions, decisions! I've about worn out my Dec/Jan. 2005 copy of Pocket PC magazine, trying to make this decision (not that I really need a new one).
Sena Cases has cases for both, so I don't have to worry about that. I just love the magnetic closure on their cases.
Elaine, I'm in LOVE with this thing! I've had 4 iPAQ's and I never thought I'd switch. But, I decided to try something different. The screen is amazing. My only disapointment so far is battery life, but I kind of expected that. Faster processor + VGA = battery drain. I've got a second battery on the way.
I ordered the Sena case too(blue/black). It's backordered so I'm carrying it in my iPAQ's covertec case for now. Wobbly fit, but it will do temporarily. Dell has gone for cheap on cases for the x50 series. Nasty looking vinal thing. My husband's x3 came with a nice leather slip case, but I think Dell must have figured out that they can sell those and make a few more bucks.
Got the bluetooth keyboard for it too. Yeah...more battery drain! But it's convenient and very well made.
I know it's a tough decision, the iPAQ is a great choice too. You may want to wait to see what the CES announcements bring. There just might be a new iPAQ or two on the horizon.
Have fun with whatever you decide to get!
Hi McDeb,
Oh my! I just got my Dell Axim x50v too! And I love it! My Audiovox Maestro was stolen at the end of October. It has been a struggle to last this long without my pda.
I will order a second battery soon. I haven't had a marathon 4+ hour meeting where I use my new Axim to take notes yet. I have one scheduled for this coming week, so I'll let you know how the battery lasts. My Maestro lost power after about 3.5 hours.
And your vga themes look awesome on the screen!
Thanks!
And I'm so happy to read the message from McMom!
She doesn't know me, but give her a hug from me anyway!
Enjoy! I'm off to transform some family vacation pictures into themes for my new pda, using ThemeMaker McDeb!
I't funny that you've had 4 iPAQ's. I'm currently using my 4th iPAQ! It's the 4350 (I'm so glad I'm not the only one with this obsession). I thought I'd use the keyboard, but I never do. The 4700 has an 1800 mAh battery, while the Dell has an 1100, but the Dell upgrade battery is 2200. Hum, the Dell is sounding a better. I don't know if I can wait for CES, since once I start thinking about a new one, it's hard to wait. I have the blue and black Sena case for my 4350, so I'm thinking about a different color for the new pocket pc (it's weird to not say the new iPAQ)!

Susan, Thememaker McDeb does not make VGA themes just yet. We are putting the finishing touches on the next version with VGA support. Should be ready any day now.
Posted by: McDeb at January 10, 2005 12:12 AMHi Deb,
I can't wait until ThemeMaker McDeb supports making VGA themes! Until then, I'll continue to use it. Thankfully, I can still use the "regular" themes from ThemeMaker McDeb on the Axim.! :-) Thanks!
Posted by: Susan at January 10, 2005 7:36 AMI just went onto the Dell webpage. There's a 15% discount on the x50v until Jan. 19th!
Posted by: Elaine at January 11, 2005 4:02 AMYou have such a lovely site here! Beautiful Today screens without obsene innudendos or anything vulgar. This is absolutely wonderful!
