A very special thanks to Keith Marshall of KAMware for all of his hard work on this version. It's fantastic!
Hi,
I am a new user to ThemeMaker McDeb. I have two questions/problems?
1. Why do I get a "KamWare Error" upon saving my new theme? It doesn't appear to effect the save.
2. When I save the theme to my pc, why don't they appear as a specific icon instead of an unknown type. (ThemeGenerator and Pocket Theme Manager have there own icons).
Thanks for your time,
Pam
By the way, the program is great.
Posted by: Pam at January 24, 2005 9:59 PMHi Pam. Sorry, but I don't know the answer to question #1. I've never seen that error before. Possibly an issue with your computer.
Regarding question #2. You can change this in windows by specifying ThemeMaker McDeb as the file type for .tsk files. In my computer, click on tools, folder options, then file types and change the "open with" for the .tsk extension.
Posted by: McDeb at January 25, 2005 5:43 PMHi again,
Thanks for the information. I have already tried what you suggest for #2 and it doesn't seem to work. I don't know if there is a problem because I have installed some other theme managers as trials and uninstalled what I didn't like. It works fine for ThemeGenerator, but not ThemeMcDeb.
Thanks again,
Posted by: Pam at January 25, 2005 11:32 PMKAMware is working on a bug fix for this. I'll send out an email update to all customers when it's ready. It's such a minor issue and does not effect the functioning of ThemeMaker McDeb, but we want to take care of it.
Posted by: McDeb at January 25, 2005 11:40 PMVersion 4.0.1 is available. Now, clicking on a .tsk file in windows will open that theme in ThemeMaker McDeb.
I have a few things, so I'll number them, as well, for ease of replying.
1. Is there any chance a change could be made to ThemeMaker McDeb which would make tools like the color picker retain their last-used setting? I personally don't like the eye dropper-style color pick tool and am annoyed that it doesn't stay turned off from session to session.
2. Also, it would be nice if custom saved colors were saved from session to session. (I know, I could use the Color Pick Tool to get around that.)
3. It would be nice from a usability standpoint if the button labels -- "Load Image(s)," "Color Pick Tool," "VGA" or "QVGA," etc. were also part of the button, rather than just the icon itself. Also changing the mouse pointer to a hand like in a browser, might be nice from a usability standpoint, as well, since the interface does not have controls which actually resemble buttons.
4. You mention that version v4.0.1 is available. If I click on the "re-download" link in my order confirmation e-mail, will that allow me to download v4.0.1 and future minor updates? If not, where do we download the updated version from?
5. Can the update be installed over the existing version or should I uninstall v4.0.0, first?
6. The question that Pam had about the "KamWare Error" is because of the title bar of the dialog box that confirms your theme has been saved. The title bar reads "KAMware - Error" instead of something along the lines of "Theme saved."
7. Could I possibly ask any more questions? ;-)
I've loving ThemeMaker McDeb. It is, by far, the best theme generator I've used to date! Pass along my thanks to KAMware for a job well done!
Posted by: Dave Beauvais at January 29, 2005 7:23 PMHi Dave. I'll do my best to answer these as best I can.
1. I'm pretty sure we could add that functionality to the next version. I'll check on it.
2. I don't think that windows custom colors can be saved in any windows app. Give that a try in MS paint, and you'll see the same issue.
3.Um...let me think about that one. I'm hesitant to add too much active button area. I'd be concerned that users would be accidently clicking all over the place. The current buttons do have a different color down state to make them obvious that they are active buttons.
4. Yes...you can download from that re-download link and you'll have the newest version. I also sent out emails to all current customers advising them of the update.
5. No, you do not have to uninstall version 4 to install 4.0.1. However, you should uninstall version 3 when upgrading to version 4. Unless you want to keep both programs.
6. I'll ask KAMware to look into it. I've not experience that issue.
7. Yes, you could ask more questions.
Hope this helps. Have fun with ThemeMaker McDeb!
2. Windows itself can save custom colors using a color selector just like the one used in TM. It's buried deeper in WinXP than in previous versions of Windows, but it's there. (The Advanced button on the Appearance tab of Display Properties.) The custom colors are stored in the registry in this case. This isn't a huge deal, but custom colors to make it easier to match theme colors in the Internal Colors dialog, for example, where the eye dropper isn't available.
3. I can understand that. Some visual feedback when you're hovering over a clickable area would be great, though. Either a highlight of the button itself or a change of the mouse pointer.
4. I went to the re-download link. I didn't receive an e-mail about the update, however. I happened to see a comment about it in the recent comments box on your site.
6. It's not an actual error; just the wrong text in the title bar. It looks like an error, when it's actually just a dialog confirming that your theme has been saved after clicking the disk button next to the theme name.
Thanks for the quick reply and all the great work you do for the Pocket PC community!
