Some desktop wallpaper images removed
One of the features of Pocket McDeb that sets us apart from the other Pocket PC theme sites is our occasional offering of matching desktop wallpapers. Many of the graphics that you see on this site are my own creation. But there are quite a few royalty-free images that I've purchased from istockphoto.com. The main reason that I purchase these images is not only to enhance Pocket McDeb, but to support the armature photographers and illustrators that offer their work on istockphoto.
I've had some communication with a representative of istockphoto today, and it appears that I may have made a mistake in my assumption that I was offering all purchased images in compliance with their EULA. The purchased images as used in Pocket PC themes are in compliance and I will continue to offer them. However, the matching desktop wallpapers are another issue entirely. In some cases the images that I purchased and then offered as a desktop wallpaper may not have been modified enough from the original work. Because it is impossible for me to determine how much modification is enough, I've decided to remove all desktop wallpapers that were created from purchased istockphoto.com images. I can see why it would make sense to not have a 1600x1200 version of a .jpg image available for free from this site when in fact it is offered for sale in its original form at istockphoto. I certainly respect that and I publicly apologize for not thinking that through.
I know that this decision will disappoint many of you, but I must respect istockphoto's EULA and the artists. It may take me a day or two to find and modify all of the relevant posts, but I'm in the process of removing them. If you should happen to come across a theme that you would like to see made into a desktop wallpaper, just comment on that post, and if the theme was made from an image purchased at istockphoto, I will reply with a link for you to purchase that image from them in its original form.
Thanks for understanding.
Posted by at 4:29 PMYeah, I agree you with you if it's the right thing to do. I didn't know where the artwork was until I heard your radio show. With all the publicity, it is probably a beating on your site
I'm sorry to see the wallpaper go, but I understand and respect your decision. I've made a few mistakes in my time and we all learn from mistakes. It makes us a better person. And we all learn from our mistakes. Don't take it too hard. You have a great site and the public appreciates your work. You are a good person. Good Luck!
No problem Deb. We'll stick around! We originally came her for the pocket pc themes. As far as I'm concerned, they're the best on the WWW!!
