Olympics - Athens 2004

I wish I would have posted this one just a little bit earlier. The games are well under way. But, it's never too late to show a little Olympic spirit. Eight medals for US swimmer Michael Phelps. That's just insane!

Just once, I'd like to actually see and hold an Olympic medal. I've been watching these games every night, and I've not won one single medal. Guess I need to put in just a little more effort. However, my remote control handling has been flawless. wink

My Life - Bill Clinton

I'm making no political statement here, just keeping up with the times. And, this book is certainly popular. I'm about half-way through the book, and I must admit I'm bored and fascinated at the same time. Odd combination, I know. As strange as it may sound, I actually enjoy politics.

Tuff Inside - Dedicated to Doc

This theme is dedicated to Doc. Our favorite regular visitor. Doc has been battling a long-term illness and is about to make another trip to the Mayo Clinic in search of some relief. Doc, your strength and courage is inspiring. Through the pain you still have plenty of room in your heart for undying patriotism and spirit. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Thinking of good people like Doc has made me wake up and realize how much we can take for granted sometimes. If you can get up every morning, take a shower, get dressed, go to work and come home and play with your kids, be grateful and don't sweat the small stuff! Just my words to live by today. smile

Capital

With the Fourth of July coming up, I thought it would be nice to make a few patriotic themes. A new one will be featured every day this week.

The first is a US flag superimposed on the Capital building.

National Police Memorial Week

National Police Memorial Week has just concluded. Download this theme and remember these facts:

A total of 1,647 law enforcement officers died in the line of duty during the last 10 years, an average of one death every 53 hours or 165 per year. There were 230 police deaths in 2001, which represents a 49 percent increase from the 154 officers who died in 2000. The deadliest day in law enforcement history was September 11, 2001, when 72 officers were killed while responding to the terrorist attacks on America.

The National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial, located in Washington D.C., was dedicated in 1991 by President George Bush. It honors all of America's federal, state and local law enforcers. Inscribed on the Memorial's blue-gray marble walls are the names of more than 14,000 officers who have been killed in the line of duty, dating back to the first known death in 1794. You can support the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund, by visiting the official site and making a donation.
